Sri Lanka is all set to tour its neighboring nation, India for a 5 match ODI series starting from the 1st november, 2014
Since the World Cup, Sri Lanka’s main problem is that they are lacking a good captain. Although that is on Mathews after Sangakarra’s abdication and currently, he is performing his responsibilities well enough, but his captaincy was once a matter of doubt when he was newly given that responsibility. Dilshan’s leadership wasn’t note worthy. He failed to win any of the series he captained. Jayawardene, who stepped down as Sri Lanka’s captain in 2008, resumed captaincy after Dilshan. India beat Sri Lanka 4-1 in that tour. And because of lack of choices, Mathews was made the captain.
Currently, India is looking a good side for the limited overs format with two ODI series win recently. India will open with the duo of Dhawan and Rahane. Rahane has been in good touch lately. But our eyes will be on Suresh Raina. His delightful innings in the finals of the recently concluded edition of CLT20 won CSK the championship. Dhoni employed a round-robin method of opening partnership in the last two ODI series after Rohit Sharma’s injury. However, now it will be interesting to see Kohli’s tactics in the ground. Now, India would like to seize the maximum from this tour to prove the world they are not crowned as Champions with no reason.
Talking about Virat Kohli, he was amidst the runs during the last two matches in the Ind-WI series. He finally found some form lately this year. It would have given him immense confidence to continue his purple patch against Sri Lanka too. One of the huge drawback for India in ODIs side since World cup is the genuine all-rounder. Since Yuvraj was diagnosed with malignant cancer, neither Jadeja or Pathan brothers could fill perfectly in his shoes. No doubt that Jadeja has been performing well in the last one and half-year or so..but still he is far behind Yuvi. Irfan Pathan was very confident of his comeback to the team during a press conference, which is not yet fulfilled. Irfan would like to utilize his time in domestic cricket and play well as this may be a key for his world cup entry. Bhuvaneswar Kumar, who is one of top limited over bowlers for India in recent days, has been looking in good touch to swing the ball in either way. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India are ahead with a 10-7 win record in Sri Lanka.
Zaheer Khan(62 wickets vs SL), who is currently the leading wicket taker for India in the India – Sri Lanka bilateral series, is really finding a difficulty to make space for him in the team. If he gets a chance, he will surely try to surpass Muralitharan(74 wickets vs IND) as the leading
