RoHIT Sharma Shatters Records in ODI

Saturday, November 15, 2014

It all started quietly with Rohit Sharma making a comeback into international cricket. He was coming back from a finger injury sustained in England in August. There were questions whether Ajinkya Rahane, who hadn’t done badly at all with a century in England, should replace him as opener. Talk about reclaiming your spot. The start was nothing special – an ecstatic Rohit crawled to 50 off 72 balls but then started fireworks, boundary after boundary and six after six, ending his innings on 264 off 173 balls which included 33 fours and 9 sixes. He got his 100 off 100, 150 off 125, 200 off 151 and 250 off 166. Very early in the match, he was on 4 off 16 when he was dropped by Thisara Perera.
Take a look at the number of records he broke:
  • Highest – Rohit Sharma’s 264 is Highest ever Individual score in One Day Cricket History. Previous was 219 by his ex-teammate Virender Sehwag against West Indies, 2011.
  • 2nd Highest – His 264 is 2nd highest in Highest Individual Score in all List-A Cricket. Highest is 268 by Ali Brown – an English national.
  • 2 – Number of ODI double-centuries Rohit Sharma has after this. No other player has done it more than once.
  • 33 – Number of fours hit by Rohit Sharma in his magical innings, the Highest by any batsman in ODIs. Previous record was 25 by Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar both.
  • 173 – Number of balls Rohit Sharma faced in his run-fiesta, most balls faced by a batsman in an ODI innings.
  • 14 - Number of batsmen who have scored 5 or more ODI hundreds for India – Rohit Sharma is the 14th. Sachin Tendulkar lead with 51.
  • Chasing Tendulkar’s 5 – 2nd 150+ score for Rohit Sharma – the only Indian with more such scores is Sachin Tendulkar (5).
  • 5 World Cup Finals - If Rohit Sharma was a country he’d have won the 1983, 1987, 1992, 1996 and 1999 World Cup finals. His insane record knock of 264 off 173 balls surpassed the total in each of the World Cup Finals mentioned.
  • 2nd Indian – Rohit Sharma today became only the second Indian opener to score 250+ in any form of the game. Virender Sehwag is the other with his two Test triple-centuries.
  • – Number of 400+ scores India has made in ODI History. All came after 2007.
